Falls in LTC settings continue to be problematic and costly. Understanding causes of falls such as the impact of medications on balance is important in managing falls in your community. In addition, innovative Fall Prevention programs have been developed. How do you know what Fall Prevention programs are appropriate for your community? How do you assess the value of these Fall Prevention programs to ensure that your community is using funds wisely? As Caregivers, we must be vigilant in facilitating evidence-based practices that contribute to the best outcomes for our clients. This seminar will describe the background and scope of falls in LTC settings; outline the connection between pharmacology and falls, and identify ways to assess, choose and evaluate Fall Prevention Programs that are compatible with your community using the Otago Exercise Program and A Matter of Balance as case examples.
