Summary

Monitors ordinances and local government policy development in Texas’ major metropolitan areas. Principal contact for city and local government officials, regional and state agency offices / departments and other interested parties concerning senior living communities. Primary responsibilities are representing TALA and its members in front of government boards and bodies, identifying policy objectives that support TALA’s mission, and working with TALA members and policymakers and local officials to accomplish these objectives. Position reports directly to TALA’s Vice President of Public Policy. Remote position with required monthly travel to Austin. Must be based in a key metro area -Austin, Houston, San Antonio, or the DFW area. 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; advanced degree(s) preferred.
  • Minimum of four years’ experience in one of the following: local government codes, assisted living management, health policy, regulatory policy or government affairs.
  • Knowledge of city and county government structure and political environment; a bi-partisan, practical political perspective.
  • Experience working with government officials. Relationships with city and county officials, elected official staff, or key personnel at state agencies.
  • Ability to work independently, to lead and manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications, analytic and negotiation skills.
  • Strategic vision and system-level thinking.
