Assisted Living Manager’s Course with TALA

The required 24-Hour course for new Assisted Living Managers consists of two components: the Texas Regulations Class (8 hours) and the Administrator's Overview Class(16 hours). TALA provides classes in both virtual and in-person formats, giving participants the flexibility to choose and mix formats based on their individual preferences. These classes are approved by the State of Texas for new Assisted Living Managers or for continuing education credit. More information is below.

Virtual On-Demand Video Modules Option

TALA's virtual courses are available on-demand on the TALA Learning Center. Each portion of the required course for new Assisted Living managers can be purchased separately or as a bundle. The TALA Learning Center is user-friendly and will greatly enhance your learning experience. You can track your progress in real time, store your TALA completion certificates, and explore a variety of courses, including the 24-hour course mandated for new Assisted Living Managers by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). 

  • Texas Regulations Class – 8 hours - $140 members/$225 non-members
    • The class is split into 5 on-demand video modules.
  • Administrator’s Overview Class -16 hours - $260 members/$325 non-members
    • The class is split into 15 on-demand video modules.

In-Person Option for AL Manager Classes

The in-person course is divided into two parts Texas Regulations on day one, followed by Administrative Overview on days two and three. Participants have the option to sign up for the full three-day 24-hour course, or they can choose to register for just the Texas Regulations section or solely the Administrative Overview portion. Attendance on both day two and three is mandatory to receive credit for the 16-hour portion.

Classes start at 8:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m., with lunch provided.

  • Day 1: Texas Regulations Class – 8 hours - $140 members/$225 non-members
  • Days 2 & 3: Administrator’s Overview Class -16 hours - $260 members/$325 non-members
  • Days 1 - 3: Full Assisted Living Manager Course - 24 hours - $400 members/ $550 non-members

Meet the Course Trainers

Linda Abel

Linda and her husband Jim have been married for 49 years. Linda has worked as an RN in Assisted Living communities for 20 years of her career. She also served alongside her husband, Jim who is a United Methodist Minister. She and Jim have 2 grown sons, who have families of their own. They especially enjoy spending time with the granddaughters. Linda officially retired in 2016, however many would say she doesn’t really understand what retirement is about. Since retirement she has served the Texas Assisted Living Association as a trainer for Assisted Living Managers all over the state of Texas.

Linda’s vision to lead Dementia Friendly Fort Worth grew out of her nursing profession and her desire to serve the older population of First United Methodist Fort Worth. Linda’s aspirations include a vision to see nursing professionals graduate with an awareness and training for nurses on better care for those with dementia until there is a cure!

Anthony Ormsbee-Hale

Anthony Ormsbee-Hale is a senior living operations and strategy professional with a background in community sales, operations, corporate workforce development and operational management. He is the Senior Vice President, Strategic Operations for Civitas Senior Living, a Texas based senior living operator. Anthony has completed executive education through Cornell University focusing on Strategic Human Resource Management and holds the Professional in Human Resources designation from HR Certification Institute and the Certified Professional designation from the Society for Human Resource Management. In 2018, Anthony co-founded the Texas Assisted Living Association's Young Professionals Network and has been involved with industry initiatives such as Argentum's HR Executive Roundtable, LEAD Program Steering Committee and the TALA Workforce Development Committee.

Rose Saenz

Rose M. Saenz's 20+ year career is centered over serving seniors in various senior living roles from nursing care to operations to new developments. She has successfully opened, licensed and operated assisted living and memory care communities.

Rose actively serves the industry as President and Operations Specialist for RevealSol, LLC, a consulting company and as the Vice President of Workforce Development for Texas Assisted Living Association (TALA) .  Additionally, she serves on the Board for A Gift Of Time in Georgetown and supports the Public Policy Committee with (TALA).

Rose is passionate about educating and supporting community leaders in how care is approached, ensuring independence, autonomy and dignity of senior adults is of highest regard through day to day operational practices, programming and community design.

Carmen Tilton

Carmen Tilton is VP of Public Policy for TALA. She oversees legislative and regulatory affairs which entails her representing TALA with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and being a leading voice at the Texas Capitol. She joined TALA in February 2020 after two years as a Senior Executive Policy Advisor for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and five years as a Senior Policy Analyst for several members in the Texas Legislature.

She has an extensive background in both the legislative and rulemaking processes with a focus on long-term care and behavioral health policies and programs. Carmen received her Master’s in Global Policy Studies from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. She is a sixth generation Texan, a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, and a native of Terlingua, TX.
